About UNDP in Kuwait

UNDP works in some 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

Inclusive growth, better services, environmental sustainability, good governance, and security are fundamental to development progress. We offer our expertise in development thinking and practice, and our decades of experience at country level, to support countries to meet their development aspirations and to bring the voices of the world’s peoples into deliberations.

In 2018, UNDP is continuing its work to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or Global Goals, as they help shape global sustainable development for the next 15 years.
UNDP has been working in Kuwait since 1962 cooperating with the Government and civil society to realize the country's aspirations for sustainable human development. In view of Kuwait's high human development status, UNDP programming is fully-funded by the state of Kuwait. Programming is designed to support the state of Kuwait to meet its national developmental priorities. Together with the aims of the UN Charter, these national priorities form the basis of all UNDP programming in Kuwait. UNDP partners with all Kuwaiti stakeholders to build national capacity to develop a more efficient public sector, support women’s empowerment, environmental sustainability and private sector development. Our national implementing partner is the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD).

What do we want to accomplish?

"To be the purveyor of top-quality advocacy and advisory services for the people of Kuwait."

"UNDP Kuwait works closely with its sister organizations in country to support the Government and its people to fully realize the Sustainable Development Goals – especially as articulated through the seven pillars of its national vision for Kuwait 2035. Furthermore, UNDP serves as a catalyst and facilitator for  Kuwait to support the achievement of the SDGs both regionally, and globally.”

UNDP has been working in Kuwait for more than 30 years cooperating with the Government and civil society to realize the country's aspirations for achieving sustainable human development. In view of Kuwait's financial affluence that guarantees one of the highest standards of living for its citizens, UNDP designs its programmes of cooperation to respond to this unique situation where wealth is not matched by a parallel level of human development. UNDP partners with all Kuwaiti stakeholders to build national capacity to develop a more efficient public sector, support women empowerment, environmental sustainability and private sector development.
