KUWAIT CITY, 16 December - UNDP Kuwait, along with Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), has embarked on implementing the ‘Fostering Youth Resiliency’ project that aims to end violence amongst youth by conducting a series of workshops, life skills, trainings, and participatory activities in local schools, youth sports centers and communities.

The event is an international campaign originating from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute coordinated by the Center for Women's Global Leadership in 1991.

On behalf of UNDP Kuwait, I am honoured to welcome this great contribution made by the State of Kuwait in funding Junior Professional Officer posts in the United Nations system. Young Kuwaiti men and women, from a diverse range of educational and professional backgrounds, will be placed in UNDP, UNFPA and UNIDO, in headquarters and field offices to engage directly on UN projects and operations in the advancement of international cooperation.

UNDP Kuwait’s Country Office, in partnership with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has successfully completed the training of 80 women religious leaders - empowering the participants to effectively and creatively address the developmental challenges in Kuwait.

Kuwait has become the first gulf country to implement the WRACATI project with support of the UNDP. Kuwait will implement the project as the seventh country in the Arab region and the first in the Gulf.

Young people around the world are deeply concerned about a lack of job opportunities and are calling for an increase in investment in this area, according to the latest World Youth Report, issued today by the United Nations. In the aftermath of the economic crisis, the global youth unemployment rate saw its largest annual increase on record in 2009, resulting in around 75.8 million unemployed youth.

The State of Kuwait plays a significant and leading role amongst Arab States in terms of awareness, advocacy and recognition of disabilities and inclusion and in 1996, a “Disability Law” was officially passed which paved the way for the creation of “The Higher Council for the Disabled Affairs (HCDA)”. There are currently 27,000 registered persons with disabilities in Kuwait benefiting from a diverse range of benefits and services that guarantee their inclusion as well as positive contribution to the Kuwaiti society.
