United Nations in Kuwait hosts the closing dinner of the KU / GUST Model United Nations annual conference 2015
On 15 March, United Nations House was the scene for the closing dinner of the Model United Nations Conference organised by the students of the International Law Society of Kuwait University (KU) and the Student Association of the Gulf University of Science and Technology (GUST).

This week, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which remains the world’s best blueprint for achieving gender equality and empowering women. The review of this visionary roadmap, adopted at the Fourth World Conference for Women in 1995, is an opportunity to celebrate the world’s progress toward ensuring the rights and opportunities of women and girls, and also to renew and reinvigorate commitments to achieve gender equality.

UNDP Kuwait and HE the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and Minister of State for Planning and Development announced the ten young Kuwaiti professionals selected to serve as Junior Professional Officers (JPOs) in the UNDP and affiliated offices. This is the second batch of ten JPOs sent by the State of Kuwait to support UNDP operations worldwide.

UNDP Signs Agreement with IOM and ILO for Joint Programming to Support Labour Market Development in Kuwait
Kuwait – The Government of the State of Kuwait signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the International Labour Organization (ILO) for joint programming to support labour market development during the third ministerial meeting of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue member states on 27 November in Kuwait City.

UNDP Kuwait hosted recently a five-day workshop for the winners of the Sheikh Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah Award for Journalistic Excellence, which was initiated by UNDP Kuwait’s Programme Analyst Huda AlDakheel at the request of the Sheikh Mubarak Awards Committee in order to assist a number of award-winning journalists in advancing the nature of their work and building their capacity to motivate and stimulate their commitment to improving the role of media in Kuwait, especially when addressing national and key development issues.

In 2012, the Government of the State of Kuwait agreed to support United Nations activities through the direct funding of 10 Junior Professional Officer (JPOs) posts. After a rigorous selection process, 10 young Kuwaitis were deployed to UNDP offices in duty stations including New York, Barbados, Copenhagen and Istanbul. Several months into their assignments, the JPOs have already experienced new challenges and the excitement of creating a new professional life for themselves in diverse surroundings.

- Each year the 257 Family Courts across Egypt see up to a million cases filed each year, almost 80 percent of them by women.The most vulnerable are illiterate women facing domestic violence to alimony and inheritance disputes. UNDP Egypt is helping vulnerable people, especially women, navigate the country's justice system. Since 2008, 32 legal aid offices offering free services were established around the country, and have addressed 45,674 cases, 74% of which were brought by women. 12 hours ago
- Esam, a waste removal worker from Idleb, is one of the 14,400 emergency employment workers who keep essential services running for 7.6 million displaced Syrians inside Syria. Idleb currently hosts 40% of internally displaced Syrians--that's 3.4 million people! In 2010, before the conflict, Idleb had a population of 165,000 Syrians. The sheer volume of new people arriving daily from active conflict areas remains a daunting challenge for Idleb and other cities that were not built to support a population of this scale.
