Urban Development and Human Resilience

On June 16th 2016, on the sidelines of The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) 9th Conference, the UN Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait, jointly with the Public Authority of the Disabled in Kuwait (PADA), organized a mini conference under the title The Urban Development and Human Resilience: An Essential approach towards Inclusive Cities for Persons with Disabilities in the Arab Region “Over View of Kuwait 2035 Vision towards Persons with Disability as model to the region”.

The side event took place in UN Headquarters in New York with the participation of H.E Mr. Mansour Alotaibi the Permanent Representative of Kuwait, Ms. Sophie de Caen the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Regional Director for Arab States in UNDP along with senior officials from the World Bank, the Arab forum for the rights of Persons with Disabilities (AFRPD) and PADA.

The key event objectives were to highlight the main challenges facing urban development of inclusive cities for persons with disability in the Arab region, to emphasize the concept of networking and co-operation between civil society organizations and governmental entities working in the disability field in the Arab region and to address a common vision and strategy towards implementation of Universal design in urban development of inclusive cities in the Arabs region.
