United Nations Participation in Media Exhibition for Iraq Conference “Partnership for Peace, Reconstruction & Sustainable Development”

Feb 12, 2018

The crisis in Iraq has been one of the largest and most volatile in the world. More than 10 million people in Iraq have been impacted by the conflict, including 5.8 million civilians forced to flee their homes, 3 million of whom remain displaced today.
After the Iraq government defeated the Islamic State of Iraq and regained control over the totality of Iraq’s territory in early December 2017, a new transition period has opened for the country. In efforts to restore the security and stability in Iraq and in line with its ongoing support in the humanitarian field, Kuwait will host an international conference under the auspices of the Amir of Kuwait and global humanitarian leader, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. The conference, titled ‘Kuwait International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq’, is scheduled to take place on the 12th to 14th of February.
On the sidelines of this conference, a six-day media exhibition will take place at the Courtyard by Marriot hotel with the participation of the United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes (AFPs). The objective of the exhibition is to familiarize the public with the role of the UN and its contribution towards rebuilding Iraq contributing to its sustainable development and the peace efforts building and capitalizing on the UN and WB worldwide wealth of experience.

During the exhibition, The United Nations APFs and the World Bank will showcase their missions’ projects and activities which will increase the collective visibility of the UN and that of the APF and depict the positive outcome of the United Nations role and contributions towards rebuilding Iraq.
Each agency is requested to provide material such as booklets, brochures, photobooks, automated presentations, and ensure interactive staff are present by their booth during the time of the exhibition to answer any queries and spread awareness around SGDs and the United Nations support to rebuilding of Iraq for sustainable development.

The theme selected in the exhibition will focus on the Sustainable Development Goal 17 ‘Partnerships for Peace, Reconstruction & Sustainable Development’. The aim of the International conference is to provide safe investment and economic growth in Iraq by encouraging foreign countries and NGOs, to invest in deeds involved in rejuvenating Iraq through the reconstruction process, in order to rebuild and sustain a viable state. UN agencies will therefore need to provide materials that illustrate their projects that specifically showcase their contributions towards rebuilding of Iraq for sustainable development.
