Virtual workshop for supporting volunteering during COVID-19 Crisis

A volunteering workshop to support and advance volunteer work in Kuwait has taken place

Kuwait City, Kuwait - The General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development participated in the activities of virtual conference entitled "Supporting volunteering in the State of Kuwait"; in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Volunteers (UNV), the Ministry of Social Affairs (MOSA), and a number of other government agencies and civil society organizations.

The workshop discussed a very important topic on the concept of volunteering and the need for societies for volunteer work, especially in light of the world facing the COVID-19 pandemic; and the need of government agencies to support volunteer efforts to support their work in service of society.

In his role, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, Dr. Khaled Mahdi, emphasized that volunteering in the State of Kuwait is a way of life and that Kuwaitis have built a love for volunteering and make unremitting efforts in the service of society; he also noted that volunteering requires well thought out behavioral patterns in order to achieve the desired results.

Dr. Mahdi stressed the keenness of the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development to implement state policies and study all ways to achieve development in society; emphasizing especially the importance of benefiting from previous experiences and knowledge capital, and also stressing the importance of leadership training and the governance system.

For her part, the Assistant Undersecretary for Community Development at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Hana Al-Hajri, affirmed that the Ministry of Affairs supports and encourages volunteer work at all times and has no objection to strengthening cooperation between civil society organizations; to activate the necessary avenues of volunteer work to achieve the desired results in society.
